Overview

Discover where the ancient Olympic Games took place and where the war truce and fair play were born.

First we visit the archaeological site of Olympia, “invading” the magical world of the gods of ancient Greece, in Olympia. The site of the greatest archaeological interest was excavated in the XIX century by a German team of experts. Olympia, according to the legend, was built in honor of Zeus, king of the gods, to promote the cult among the Greeks.

You will admire the site which includes the ruins of the Temple of Zeus, the Gymnasium, the Hippodrome and the imposing Olympic Stadium, where the early Games were held, designed to hold up to 40.000 spectators.

In close proximity to the site you can find the world famous Archaeological Museum of Ancient Olympia where you can admire, amongst many priceless exhibits, the marble statues of the Temple of Zeus and the unique Statue of Hermes, carved by the ancient Greek sculptor Praxiteles.

Next, you will head to the local Klio’s honey farm. The owner welcome you with a proper traditional Greek way with glass of water or juice and a homemade dessert, the famous “spoon sweet” also called as “glyko tou koutaliou” made of quince or different fruit of the farm. After this warm welcome, Klio will introduce you the secrets of honey production and other agricultural products from both, past and present. Through this presentation you will learn about the impressive bee colonies which work together in order to create this wonderful product, honey, along with other valuable products they offer to us.

During your visit you will get a chance to sample the variety of homemade desserts and jams from the fruit of the farm. Your visit will end by tasting a traditional honey dessert. Mrs. Roula will prepare it in front of you, revealing the secrets of the preparation of this delicious dessert.

At the end of the tour you will get a chance to visit a small showroom where you can get homemade products such as a honey, jams, pastries, cosmetic creams and other seasonal local products.
