Overview

During this trip, you will have an insight of Ancient Olympia, which was not an ordinary city with permanent residents, but a sanctuary of buildings and temples dedicated to the Gods who were protecting the Olympic Games.

Our fully air-conditioned coach will drop you off at the parking lot about 400m away from the Archaeological Site. Your guide will lead you to the Site of the greatest archaeological interest, excavated in the XIX century by a German team of experts. Olympia, according to the legend, was built at the king of the gods’ will, Zeus, to promote the cult among the Greeks. You will admire the Site which includes the ruins of the Temple of Zeus, the Gymnasium, the Hippodrome and the imposing Olympic Stadium, where the early Games were held, designed to hold up to 40.000 spectators.

Afterwards you can pay a short guided tour to the Archaeological Museum of Ancient Olympia. It is without any doubt one of the largest and most important museums in Greece. You will feel the pulse of these ancient times, the splendor and magic of the Olympic idea.

Ending the guided tour you will have free time in the city of modern Olympia, full of traditional souvenir shops. You can also relax in one of the nearby cafeterias or even pay a visit to one the Greek taverns tasting  the excellent Mediterranean cuisine.

Leaving the ancient city of Olympia behind you, you will board back on your coach for your return trip.
